Crowned by the majestic Himalayas, Nepal is one of the world’s extraordinary countries: a geographical wonder and ethnological crossroads with vibrant culture, rich history and unparalleled natural beauty.

'Himalayan Foothills Trek' is one of the best trips for beginners to experience the unique Himalayan culture and traditions along with a pleasant trekking at the foothills of the Himalayas. The trek is in the most beautiful Annapurna region in Nepal which is the land of cultural, ethnic and geographical diversity. The adventure starts with a scenic flight to Pokhara. Then you will hike for 4 days through picturesque villages and valleys, staying at local lodges, mixing with the people and their unique way of life and enjoying the breathtaking scenery. The region is also home of the world famous brave Gurkha soldiers. The trip is combined with World Heritage sites of Kathmandu, colorful Lake City Pokhara and fascinating Chitwan National Park. Overall the trip is a unique blends of natural, cultural and jungle experiences.

About Hike: This hike is moderate and does not require any previous hiking experience. It only requires that you be able to hike for 3-4 hours a day over hilly terrain with uphill and downhill. The walking hours mentioned in the itinerary are slow pace walking with several breaks. Your duffle bag will be carried by a porter. You have to carry only a light daypack with water bottle, camera etc.

Accommodation & food on hike: The accommodation on trek at local lodges are much better in this region. Rooms are clean & comfortable with attached bathrooms. Foods are fresh but simple such as rice, vegetables, lentils, chickens, bread, butter, cheese, eggs, soups, cereals, tea, coffee etc.


Brief itinerary: 
Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu (1350m / 4430ft): Pick up at airport, transfer to Hotel 
Day 02: Guided sightseeing to UNESCO sited in Kathmandu 
Day 03: Fly to Pokhara (850m / 2790ft): short & scenic flight 
Day 04: Trek to Astamkot (1500m / 4920ft): 3 hours trek 
Day 05: Trek to Dhampus (1700m / 5577ft): 4 hours trek 
Day 06: Trek to Landruk (1620m / 5315ft): 4 hours trek 
Day 07: Trek to Ghandruk (2000m / 6560ft): 4 hours trek 
Day 08: Drive to Pokhara: 2 hour’s scenic drive. 
Day 09: Drive to Chitwan National Park: 4 ½ hours scenic drive 
Day 10: Jungle activities in Chitwan National Park 
Day 11: Drive to Kathmandu: 5 hours scenic drive 
Day 12: Depart from Kathmandu: Transfer to airport 

Itinerary

Day 01 : Arrive in Kathamndu
Arrive in Kathamndu (1350m / 4430ft): Welcome to Nepal! On arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport you will be greeted by Happy Feet representative or your guide and transferred to your hotel. Then, you will be briefed about your program and help you make the necessary preparation. Venture out if time permits. Later, head to a local restaurant for a Welcome Dinner.

Day 02 : Sightseeing in Kathamndu
Guided sightseeing to UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kathmandu: The rich tapestry of the cultural heritage of Nepal is synthesized in Kathmandu Valley, representing elegant architecture, refined culture, colorful bazaars and simple hospitable people.

Visit the Soyambhunath stupa on a hillock overlooking Kathmandu valley. Well known as ‘Monkey Temple’ the golden spire crowning, Soyambhunath is the most ancient and mystical of all the holy shrines in Kathmandu valley. Then visit Patan - the first city of Nepal. The ancient name of Patan is Lalitpur, meaning city of beauty. The city is believed to be the first settlement in the Valley and famous for its amazing collection of fantastically carved temples and palace courtyards. Patan is also famous for metal crafts. Here you can also visit the healing bowl place to watch the demonstration. Lastly, visit Boudhanath, possibly the world’s largest Buddhist stupa and a site of great veneration and Tibetan culture. Visit Tibetan monastery and painting school.

Note: Today you will have an option of morning Everest flight flying along the Himalayan ranges.
Day 03 : Fly to Pokhara
Fly to Pokhara (850m / 2790ft): A short and scenic flight will take you to the beautiful town of Pokhara where eye opening views of Himalayas will welcome you. Nestled beneath the Himalayas, the lush natural beauty of Pokhara contrasts with Fewa Lake and mountain views. After check-in at the hotel, go for boating on Fewa Lake, then visit the International Mountain Museums and walk around the colorful lakeside in the afternoon.

Day 04 : Trek to Astamkot
Drive to Milanchok (860m / 2820ft) / trek to Astamkot (1500m / 4920ft) / 3 hours trek: After a short drive for about 25 minutes to the town of Milan Chowk, the hike begins with gradual uphill through the forest with views across the Mardi Khola (river). Today’s entire walk is uphill through the forest which takes about 3 hour in gradual pace with breaks. Once you arrive at Astamkot, you will be amazed by 360 degree views of the entire Pokhara, Hemja, and Mardi valley with backdrop majestic views of the Himalayas. It is also one of the most spectacular places to view a sunset and sunrise in the Himalayas. After lunch, walk along the village to get an insight into rural village life of Brahman and Chhetri people living in these mid-hills for generations.

Day 05 : Trek to Dhampus
Trek to Dhampus (1700m / 5580ft) / 4 hours walk: Today’s walk to Dhampus is very pleasant with breathtaking views of the Himalayas on the right and valleys on the left. The trek begins with climbing stone staircases about 1 ½ hours. In about 4 hours’ medium pace walk, you will reach at the beautiful village of Dhampus. Situated on a ridge with breathtaking views of the Himalayas, Dhampus is a beautiful Gurung village with stone houses. Walk around the village after lunch.

Day 06 : Trek to Landruk
Trek to Landruk (1620m / 5315ft) / 5 hours walk: Walk through a beautiful forest passing the village of Pothana where your Annapurna Conservation Area permit is checked. Then you will walk on a gravel path with switchbacks to the village of Tolka. From Tolka, the trail is almost level and passes through beautiful hamlets and fields. Landruk is a picturesque village above the Modi River with close up views of Annapurna and Fish Tail mountains.

Day 07 : Trek to Ghandruk
Trek to Ghandruk (2000m / 6560ft) / 4 hours walk: From Landruk, the trail makes a steep descent through terraced fields to Modi River. Crossing the river on a suspension bridge, the train climbs all the way to Ghandruk. Ghandruk is one of the most beautiful villages of Nepal. It is a village of ethnic Gurung people and home of brave Gurkha soldiers. After lunch, explore the village.

Day 08 : Drive to Pokhara
Drive to Pokhara (2 hours’ drive): From Ghandruk, the drive is downhill on a graveled road to Nayapool. From Nayapool, the drive is on a paved road to Pokhara. After check -in at the hotel and freshening up, you will have free time to explore beautiful city of Pokhara on your own or just rest or relax at massage spa.

Day 09 : Drive to Chitwan National Park
Drive to Chitwan National Park (150m / 490ft): After breakfast you will leave for Chitwan National Park. It is about 4 ½ hours of beautiful drive through scenic Trisuli gorge and flat fertile land of Tarai in southern Nepal.

You will stay two nights at Chitwan village at the border of Chitwan National Park. These two days Chitwan package provides different jungle activities such as jungle safari, boat ride, jungle walk, bird watching, tribal dance program, visiting tribal Tharu village etc. The activities will be in groups.

Chitwan National Park is the first national park of Nepal established in 1973 to preserve a unique ecosystem significantly valuable to the whole world. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the last populations of one-horned Asiatic rhinoceros and home of the Bengal tiger.

Note: During monsoon and post monsoon (mid-June / July to mid Oct) Jeep safaris are not permitted to conduct by park authority due to slippery and muddy roads. Usually the monsoon ends from mid-September and Jeep Safari opens from the beginning of October, but depends upon the road condition. Alternate activities are provided during this period.
